Meet The Team

Mrs. Kimberly

Infant 1 Lead Teacher

Hello! My name is Kimberly. I am very outgoing and kind-hearted. I have been working in childcare facilities for 5 years and was a nanny for a year before that. I am almost done earning my CDA in infant/toddler and studying Early Childhood Education, and I’m always looking for more opportunities to further my education. I have a daughter who is 2 years old; she is so precious and always smiling! In my free time, I love trail rides.

I look forward to seeing each child reaching their milestones and helping them along the way. I know it is hard for parents to leave their child(ren) during the day, and it is especially hard to find those you can trust with your most precious babies. I know that Playful Learners already has an outstanding, trustworthy team, and I love working alongside them in serving the parents and children by being reliable, professional, and safe for their little ones.

Mrs. Hayley

Infant 1 Teacher Assistant

Hey there! My name is Hayley, and I was born in Greenville, South Carolina, but I grew up in various places around Virginia. I would describe myself as honest, funny, and focused on my goals. I am currently going to school full-time for my Bachelor’s degree in middle school mathematics, and I plan to start a CDA program in the summer of 2022. I have been working in child care for a little over a year now, exclusively with non-mobile and mobile infants, but I babysit children up to the age of 6. I love baking and yoga, and I live on a farm with my boyfriend and his grandmother. I love babies, and I am so excited to get to know your little ones.

Hi, my name is Ashley! I am from Montgomery, Alabama. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2017, having studied Human Development and Family Studies. I have been teaching in infant programs for over 3 years now, working with children aged 6 weeks to 3 years old. Teaching children and watching them grow and develop brings so much joy to my life. My hobbies include caring for my dogs, chickens, ducks, and goats at home.

Mrs. Carter

Toddler Co-Lead

I grew up in Richmond, Virginia, but I moved to Charlottesville in October of 2019. I interviewed here at Playful Learners preschool that same week, and I instantly fell in love with its ideals and goals.

I started working in childcare when I was 13, volunteering at the daycare I went to as a kid! I volunteered for a couple of summers before getting taken on to work in the kitchen and then in the classroom. I enjoy working with all age groups in child care, but my favorite is probably pre toddlers! I love establishing bonds with the kids and their parents as well. I’ve been with Playful Learners for 2 ½ years, and I love it here. I’ve learned a lot and pushed myself out of my comfort zone!

A little bit about me is that I lived in Charlottesville until I was 5, then moved to Richmond and spent the next 15 years of my life there. I have 2 sisters and a brother. We are all really close in age. I also have 4 dogs and 2 cats. My hobbies include music and art—especially painting! I’m excited to see what the future holds, and it’s an absolute pleasure getting to meet you and your child!

Mrs. Hope

Toddler Assistant

Hello! My name is Hope Simmers. I am originally from Buckingham, Virginia, where I graduated in 2017, but I moved to Madison at the beginning of 2020. In my free time, I do a lot of drawing and creative works. Before working here, I pursued art studies for 2 years at Virginia Commonwealth University. Working at Playful Learners is my first “real” childcare job, but I have been babysitting and caring for children since I was a pre-teen. I have always loved children and working with them. I have fond memories of some of my teachers and hope to have the same effect on at least one child.

I plan to stay in this career and nurture and teach young ones for a long time. I am currently in school at Piedmont Virginia Community College for Early Childhood Education and will be completing my certification this fall of 2022. I am sure I will continue my education even after that. I have been here since January, and I have enjoyed getting to know the children and the families! I am always available for contact, and I’m happy to help!

Mrs. Courtney

Hi there! I was born in Charlottesville, Virginia but raised in Greene County most of my life. I am humorous, kind, and outgoing! I like to make people laugh because that means you are smiling! I also like to hike and be outside with my daughter most of the year!

I started this journey in childcare in 2014 when I graduated high school. Being one of seven siblings and the third oldest, it was always my destiny to watch little ones! From babysitting, daycares, preschools, and nannying, I have learned so much, taking in every angle and piece of advice from many cultures and families; I believe I’ve become very good and confident in what I do now!

I like being with Playful Learners for multiple reasons: I like the school’s layout, the healthy lunches they provide, and the structure in the classrooms! I absolutely love doing what I do with these children, and I can’t wait to grow with them at Playful Learners!

Mrs. Jasmin

Co-Lead Infant 2

Hello, Playful Learners’ parents/co-workers! My name is Jasmin (Jazzy). I’m from Crozet, Virginia, but we’ve lived here for 10+ years. I love spending time with family, my best friend Taylor, and my boyfriend Tyler on the weekends. Some fun facts: I love children and puppies, my favorite animal is a dolphin, I taught myself American Sign Language, and I’m part Brazilian!

I became interested in working with kids when I was 12 years old. I started as a mother’s helper, and after taking babysitting classes and CPR classes, I began babysitting in my neighborhood. I worked at the Piedmont YMCA for several years, at Malcolm Cole for a short time, and as a Nanny to a family.

After high school, I went to Piedmont Community College, where I studied Early Childhood Education for 2 years. I currently hold a CDA in Infant/Toddler, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work at Playful Learners Preschool.

I’m excited to be working for Playful Learners Preschool because the name drew me in—it sounded like a pretty cool place to work! The other reason is that I love children. If I didn’t love kids, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Kids bring lots of joy and happiness into my life.

Mrs. Jess

Toddler Co-Lead Teacher

Hello! My name is Jessica Ray. First and foremost, I want to thank you all for welcoming me here! I am looking forward to working with you and your family! I enjoy making candles and body scrubs, using my Cricut®, and doing all types of crafts! I recently moved to the area, so my free time is currently devoted to making my house a home with painting and all that cool stuff! I enjoy all types of music, so if a good concert is in the area, you might find me there!

For a little background, I have over 3 ½ years of experience in the childcare industry. I have worked with all ages, but my focus has been working with toddlers and 3-to-5-year-olds. I thoroughly delight in working with children, watching them grow, and seeing their minds challenged. Again, thank you so much for welcoming me into your family!

Mrs. Kristen

Pre-Toddler Lead Teacher

I grew up in Greene County, Virginia, and graduated from William Monroe High School in 2018. I am the middle child out of 3 and the only girl! I have 4 dogs and enjoy spending my time adventuring around in my truck, going to the beach, and spending time with my boyfriend. I’ve always had a passion for working with children and cannot wait to watch your children grow, succeed and hit their big milestones!

Mrs. Lauren

Infant 1 Teacher Assistant

I love being a part of the community here at Playful Learners! I began my journey and love of kiddos early—once I was middle-school age—helping take care of the kids in my childhood church and babysitting for family and friends. After graduating from Albemarle High School in 2007, I moved from the Charlottesville/Keswick area, where I grew up, to Cleveland, Tennessee, for my Undergraduate Degree. I attended Lee University and graduated with a BA in Psychology in 2011. While in Tennessee, I volunteered, nannied, and worked in facilities as a Lead Teacher and Training Teacher until I got accepted into my Graduate Program at Antioch University in Seattle, Washington. I spent the next few years working on my Double Major Master’s Program in Art Therapy and Mental Clinical Health Counseling.

In addition, I worked at Bright Horizons Family Solutions, where my love and experience for children and their education and care really blossomed and turned into a huge passion. I began as an Infant Lead Teacher and eventually became the facilities Team Lead in Admin and Education Coordinator.

I have been back in Virginia for 2 years and worked at Elk Hill Boys Home for a year and a half, utilizing my psychology degree, but I missed the kids, so I soon became the Closing Manager, School-Age Manager, and Safety Captain at La Petite Academy in Richmond. Due to COVID-19, I was furloughed, but this opportunity allowed me and my husband to find and purchase our first and (maybe, hopefully) our only home!

My husband and I live in Lake Monticello, and both enjoy the outdoors: hiking, biking, the mountains, the lake, fishing, and anything else you can do outside! We have a kitty named Atari, better known as Toodle. I also enjoy art: painting, drawing, coloring, sewing, and cooking. Now you have a little insight into who I am, and I really look forward to meeting your families, learning about you, and partnering with you to serve your needs and care for your children.

Mrs. Tabby

Assistant Director

Hi I’m Mrs. Tabby, and I love hockey—Go Caps! I enjoy spending time with my family and doing Pinterest crafts with my kids. I’ve been working in childcare for almost 11 years, primarily in a 2-year-old classroom. I was a director at a center as well as a trainer. I spent a year within the Albemarle County school district in the reverse inclusion program. I love being part of the Playful Learners’ team because it is a very different style of preschool education from what I’ve worked with in the past; I’ve really fallen in love with the Playful Learners’ mission. I have lots of great tricks that I’ve learned over the years and love sharing them with the teachers in our program.

Mrs. Terry

Pre-K Lead Teacher

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a native of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I moved here following the love of my life—Dennis, my husband of more than 30 years—as he pursued an employment opportunity. We have one adult son, Hunter, who also lives and works in the area. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Hampton University.

My journey working with young children began over 37 years ago, working with many different ages in many different venues. I worked at an elementary school in the York County Public Schools System for more than 10 years as a teaching assistant for a reverse inclusion special education classroom with at-risk and typical students. In 2018, I started working at a private preschool as the lead teacher in the 4-year-old classroom. I loved working with this age group. After moving to the area, I began yet another leg of my journey here at Playful Learners.

I believe childhood is a magical time. I want to help children explore, grow, and learn about all the wonderful things around them. I want to open their eyes to the possibilities that life holds. I believe that children learn best through fun, engaging, hands-on activities and experiences. I believe in doing, getting messy, questioning, investigating, playing games, imagining, creating, and exploring. I want to create an environment where your child feels safe and loved and where they will succeed.

Are you passionate about early childhood education?
